SKU 1923T
Category: Porsche 914 Torsion Bars
The ultimate "weight-optimized" front suspension solution for competition-level Porsche 914s. These 23mm tubular torsion bars provide the maximum spring rate available for the 914 chassis while utilizing a hollow core to significantly reduce unsprung weight. Engineered for high-horsepower conversions (V8 or 3.6L swaps) and dedicated GT-class racing, these bars deliver extreme roll resistance and front-end stability without the heavy mass of a solid 23mm bar.
Performance & Fitment
- Application: Front Torsion Bar Set
- Diameter: 23mm (Extreme Competition Grade)
- Type: Tubular (Hollow)
- Spring Rate: Maximum performance increase (Over 5x the stiffness of original factory bars)
Porsche 914-4: 1970 through 1976
Porsche 914-6: 1970 through 1972
Note: The "T" designation indicates a tubular design. This bar provides the exact same spring rate as a 23mm solid bar but with superior suspension recovery speeds due to the lower weight.
Premium Construction
Material: 4340 aircraft-grade alloy steel, through-hardened to handle the massive torsional loads of the 23mm diameter.
Weight Savings: Features a precision-drilled 0.500" inner bore, making this set approximately 2 lbs lighter than the solid equivalent. This is a critical advantage for maintaining tire contact on rougher track surfaces.
Manufacturing: Centerless ground to a precise 23mm outside diameter, ensuring a perfectly linear spring rate and removing surface imperfections that could lead to stress fractures.
Finish: Industrial-grade powder coating for maximum protection against corrosion and track debris.
⚠️ Critical Installation & Performance Notes
Chassis Reinforcement MANDATORY: A 23mm bar transfers immense loads. It is essential to reinforce the front torsion bar mounting bulkheads and A-arm pivot points. Failure to do so may result in the mounting points tearing away from the factory sheet metal.
System Balance: To prevent uncontrollable understeer, you must use extremely high-rate rear coil springs (typically 350–450 lb/in).
Damping Requirements: Standard performance shocks will fail to control this rate. Professional-grade, custom-valved racing dampers are required to prevent a dangerous "pogo" effect.
- Spline Care: Apply a generous layer of high-pressure waterproof grease to the splines during installation to prevent seizing and eliminate the "popping" noises common in high-rate torsion setups.
