    Setting up an oversized 7/8" King Kong link pin front end differs significantly from a standard vintage street car, requiring absolute precision during assembly to prevent premature component failure:

  • 🧮 The Logic of Link Pin Shimming: Link pin shims serve a dual purpose. First, changing the ratio of shims on the inside versus the outside of the trailing arm directly adjusts your front wheel camber angle. Second, the total number of shims used across both upper and lower pins must equal a fixed mathematical baseline to guarantee the upper and lower trailing arms travel in perfectly parallel vertical arcs. Miscalculating the shim stack will force the arms to twist inward or outward as the suspension compresses, resulting in severe suspension binding, accelerated bush wear, and unpredictable steering deflections.

  • ❌ Never Mix and Match Shim Profiles: This kit is explicitly engineered for 7/8" diameter King Kong hardware. Standard vintage Volkswagen link pin beams utilize much smaller 18mm or 22mm hardware. Do not attempt to use standard VW shims on a 7/8" pin (as they will not fit), and never use oversized washers or loose-fitting substitute shims.   • 🔩 Torque and Pin Pre-Load Verification: Once your calculated shim stack is resting on the 7/8" pins, tighten the link pin lock nuts to the designated racing specification. After torque is applied, manually grab the spindle assembly and cycle the suspension by hand through its entire travel arc. The spindle should pivot smoothly and effortlessly from top to bottom.
