Spacer Kit for Adjustable Spring Plates
SKU 5513
Category: Adjustable Spring Plate Spacer Hardware Kit
Engineered by Sway-A-Way, this essential spacer and hardware kit is designed for vehicles upgrading to Sway-A-Way adjustable rear spring plates (such as classic Porsche or Volkswagen applications). High-performance adjustable spring plates feature heavy-duty 5mm spring steel plates combined with mechanical adjustment bolts and lock nuts. This design makes the entire assembly significantly thicker than a stamped factory single-plate setup. This precision hardware kit provides the necessary chassis clearance, preventing the mechanical adjustment mechanism from binding against the factory outer spring plate housing cover.
Performance & Fitment
Application: Universally used across all Sway-A-Way adjustable rear spring plate installations requiring outer housing cover spacing.
Purpose: Linearly spaces out the factory outer spring plate cover plate, creating an exact clearance pocket to accommodate the thicker high-strength adjustable steel plates and hardware.
Included Components:
Premium high-strength aluminum spacer blocks
Extended high-tensile 12mm x 1.5 thread pitch mounting bolts
Premium Construction
Material: High-Strength Billet Aluminum. Precision-machined from premium aluminum alloy blocks to guarantee excellent compressive strength and dimensional stability under immense suspension clamp loads.
Manufacturing Process: Precision CNC Machined. Machined to exact nominal tolerances to ensure flawless parallel alignment between the chassis torsion tube flange and the outer cover plate, eliminating any risk of bolt twisting or structural shifting.
Hardware Quality: Supplied with extended high-tensile 12mm-1.5 fasteners engineered to handle the severe shear and tensile loads subjected to vintage rear suspension trailing arms.
🔧 High-Performance Spring Plate Installation & Hardware Tech Notes
Installing adjustable spring plates with a spacer kit requires proper mechanical alignment and strict torque procedures to ensure structural integrity:
📐 Parallel Alignment Verification: When sandwiching the aluminum spacers between the chassis torsion tube housing and the outer spring plate cover, ensure all surfaces are completely free of old undercoating, paint scaling, dirt, or rust pits. The spacer blocks must sit perfectly flat and parallel. If debris causes a spacer to sit cocked at an angle, it will introduce a bending moment on the extended 12mm bolts, which can lead to fatigue failure under heavy cornering loads.
❌ Never Reuse Factory Short Bolts: The factory 12mm spring plate housing bolts are too short to safely grip the chassis threads once the thicker adjustable plate and spacer blocks are installed. You must discard the stock hardware and use the extended high-tensile 12mm-1.5 bolts supplied in this kit. Operating with insufficient thread engagement risks stripping out the chassis internal threads or causing a catastrophic suspension separation under load.
🔩 Proper Thread Engagement & Torque Spec: Clean the internal female chassis threads with a metric thread chaser or wire brush prior to assembly. Hand-start all 12mm bolts to avoid cross-threading the chassis. Once all fasteners are delivered home by hand, use a calibrated torque wrench to tighten the 12mm-1.5 bolts progressively in a cross-pattern to the recommended factory structural specification (typically 60–65 ft-lbs / 81–88 N·m, subject to your specific vehicle chassis manual).
❌ Lubricate the Threads Wisely: To ensure accurate torque readings and prevent long-term galvanic corrosion between the steel bolts, aluminum spacers, and steel chassis, apply a light coat of high-pressure anti-seize or a drop of medium-strength blue thread-locking compound (Loctite 242) to the bolt threads before final installation.
❌ Post-Settling Retorque: High-performance suspension setups experience a settling period during the first few miles of driving as the spring plates twist and seat into the new bushings. It is highly recommended to inspect the assembly and retorque all 12mm housing cover bolts after the first 50 to 100 miles of track or road operations to ensure zero clamping pressure loss.
