Category: Sway-A-Way 300M Trophy Truck Axles

Engineered by Sway-A-Way for elite off-road and asphalt race platforms, the 32820 series axles are built to endure the violent punishment delivered by modern, high-horsepower Trophy Trucks and unlimited trick buggies. Forged from ultra-premium 300M alloy steel, these axles offer an immediate 30% strength advantage over traditional 4340 chromoly alternatives. With optimized shaft diameters designed to allow calculated torsional flex, these axles function as a mechanical shock absorber for your entire drivetrain, protecting expensive differentials and transaxles from catastrophic failure.

Performance & Fitment

  • Application: Trophy Trucks, Trick Trucks, Class 1 Unlimited Buggies, and extreme dual-purpose street/dirt racing vehicles.

  • Material: Aerospace-Grade 300M Steel. Renowned for its unparalleled tensile strength and exceptional ductility, allowing the axle to survive extreme twisting forces under full load.

  • Spline Length: 1.710". Precision-engineered to eliminate tight bind spots and enhance inboard/outboard CV "floating," reducing horizontal friction on the internal cages.

  • Maximized End Diameter: Designed with an enlarged shoulder diameter at the base of the splines to maximize axle-to-CV face contact. This layout distributes lateral thrust loads evenly, minimizing catastrophic CV cage breakage during heavy cornering and high-impact landings.

  • Finish: Unpainted / Raw Steel. Shipped deliberately unpainted to allow race teams to instantly run Magnaflux or dye-penetrant inspections without having to strip down a protective coating first.

Premium Construction

  • Advanced Heat Treatment: State-of-the-art through-hardening and tempering optimize the steel's crystal structure, resulting in a shaft with an exceptionally high yield point that returns to its original position without taking a permanent bend.

  • Centerless Ground: The outer body of the shaft is ground to a mirror finish, maintaining absolute diameter consistency. This precision removing of all microscopic surface imperfections eliminates potential "stress risers" where fractures typically form.

  • Wear Mitigation: Precision-cut splines provide a tightly toleranced fitment with the CV star, drastically minimizing "chatter" and backlash wear over long endurance race cycles.

🏁 Trophy Truck Drivetrain & Setup Notes

Deploying a premium unpainted Sway-A-Way 300M racing axle requires professional preparation and strict maintenance protocols:

  • ❌ Mandatory Pre-Race Inspection: Because these axles are delivered unpainted, take advantage of this to perform a baseline Magnaflux test before your first heat cycle. This ensures the axle contains zero micro-fractures from shipping or handling before hitting the track.

  • ❌ Rust Prevention: Being raw steel, these axles will oxidize quickly if exposed to moisture. After inspection, apply a thin coat of clear rust-preventative spray, dry-film lubricant, or light machine oil to the center section of the shaft to shield it from corrosion between race cycles. Do not use thick paint or powder coat that could mask future surface cracks.

  • ❌ Suspension Cycle & Plunge Check: Prior to installing your shocks or limit straps, mock up the complete drivetrain and cycle the suspension from full extension (droop) to full compression (bump). Verify that the axle has adequate "plunge" room within the CV joints. If the axle bottoms out internally, the maximized shoulder design will jam into the CV cage, shattering the hub assembly or cracking your transaxle casing.

  • ❌ High-Pressure Lubrication: Always coat the 1.710" splines and the contact faces with a premium, high-molybdenum (Moly) racing grease. This allows the CV star to slide or "float" smoothly across the splines under load, avoiding spline galling caused by high heat and pressure.

  • ❌ Directional Memory Logging: Once these axles complete their initial break-in and heat cycles, the steel takes a permanent torsional "set" in the direction of the engine's torque rotation. Mark these axles clearly as Left (Driver) and Right (Passenger). Reversing their orientation on subsequent races will force the steel grain to untwist against its set, severely cutting its fatigue life and risking an immediate snap.
