Axle Set - Custom Porsche 930 - 28 Spline
Performance & Fitment
Application: Porsche 930 (Turbo) factory replacements and custom mid-engine race cars.
Spline Count: 28 Teeth. This is the industry-standard high-performance spline for 930-style CV joints, offering a significant increase in shear strength over smaller spline counts.
Diameter: Custom. These axles are typically "waisted" or tapered to allow for torsional twist, which acts as a mechanical fuse to protect your expensive transaxle gears from shock-loading.
Compatibility: Designed to pair perfectly with standard 108mm 930 CV joints.
Material: High-Strength Alloy Steel. Forged from premium aerospace-grade alloys (typically 300M or 4340), these axles are engineered for maximum ductility and tensile strength.
Precision Machining: Every axle is CNC-machined to exacting tolerances, ensuring that the splines engage fully with the CV star for even load distribution.
Torque Handling: Built to withstand the violent "shock-loading" associated with drag starts, heavy off-road landings, and high-boost acceleration.
Heat Treatment: Through-hardened and tempered to achieve the perfect balance between hardness (to prevent spline wear) and flexibility (to prevent snapping under load).
❌ Torsional Twist (The "Fuse"): These axles are designed to twist slightly under extreme load. This "spring" action is intentional; it absorbs the initial hit of a hard launch, preventing the force from being transmitted directly into your ring and pinion.
❌ CV Joint Maintenance: An axle is only as strong as the CV joint attached to it. When installing SKU 32400, ensure you are using high-quality chromoly CV cages and high-temp racing grease.
❌ Correct Length: Because these are often used in custom builds (sand rails, trophy lites, etc.), ensure your "plunge" is calculated correctly. If the axle is too long, it will bottom out in the CV joint during suspension travel and shatter the transaxle side-cover.
❌ Spline Lubrication: Always apply a coat of anti-seize or heavy-duty moly grease to the 28-spline ends. This prevents the CV joint from "freezing" to the axle, which makes future teardowns and inspections significantly easier.
- ❌ Visual Inspection: In racing applications, it is recommended to "magnaflux" or dye-penetrant test the axles at the end of every season to check for microscopic stress fractures.
