Torsion Bar Set – VW 26 9/16" Long – 300M (26mm)
Performance & Fitment
Application: Volkswagen Type 1 (Beetle), Ghia, and Off-Road Rails
Length: 26 9/16" (Standard "Long" Bar)
Diameter: 26mm
Rate Increase: ~30% stiffer than stock (ideal for adding passengers or light gear without sagging)
Fitment Note: Generally used on 1961-1968 Swing Axle models and 1969-later IRS models (verify your housing length before ordering).
Material: Forged from high-strength 300M alloy steel, a material renowned in the aerospace and off-road racing industries for its incredible fatigue life and ability to handle extreme shock loads.
Precision Manufacturing: Each bar is centerless ground to ensure a perfectly uniform diameter, which eliminates surface stress risers that lead to fractures.
Preset Rotation: These bars are factory prestressed (set). This critical manufacturing step ensures that the bars will not "settle" or sag after the first few miles of use, allowing you to set your ride height once and trust it to hold.
Heat Treatment: Advanced through-hardening processes maximize the steel's "memory," ensuring the bar returns to its original position after every landing or bump.
❌ The 30% Rule: A 26mm bar offers a noticeably firmer ride. This is perfect for cars that have been converted to "Baja" style with larger tires or for vehicles carrying additional weight like a larger engine or a fuel cell.
❌ Spline Count Verification: Ensure your spring plates and inner torsion housing match the VW standard spline count. Always clean and deburr your internal splines before installation to prevent binding.
❌ Lubrication: Liberally coat the splines with a high-pressure moly-based grease during installation. This prevents the bars from seizing in the housing or spring plates, which makes future ride-height adjustments much easier.
❌ Directional Installation: Pay close attention to the end markings. Torsion bars are often directional due to the factory presetting process. Installing them on the wrong side can lead to premature sagging or failure.
- ❌ Sold as a Pair: For consistent handling and even ride height, torsion bars should always be replaced in matched pairs.
