SKU 3011
Category: VW Torsion Bar Bushings / Spring Plate Grommets
Restore your classic Volkswagen’s suspension geometry and eliminate metal-on-metal chatter with this high-performance "Knobby" Spring Plate Grommet. Specifically designed for the high-friction environment of the VW rear torsion housing, these grommets serve as the critical interface between your spring plates and the chassis. Whether you are running a stock daily driver or an off-road rail with adjustable plates, these bushings provide the necessary dampening and alignment stability for a smooth, predictable ride.
Performance & Fitment
Models: VW Type 1 (Beetle), Type 3, and Karmann Ghia
Suspension Type: Compatible with both IRS (Independent Rear Suspension) and Swing Axle configurations.
Position: Fits the inner or outer torsion housing (check your specific year/model requirements for quantity).
Adjustability: Universally compatible with both standard (OEM) and aftermarket adjustable spring plates.
Function: Isolates the torsion bar and spring plate from the chassis, preventing suspension bind and reducing road vibration transfer.
Premium Construction
"Knobby" Surface Design: The distinct raised-knob profile is engineered to provide a superior, "locked-in" fit within the housing. This design allows for better compression management and prevents the bushing from spinning or shifting under extreme cornering loads.
High-Quality Rubber Compound: Unlike rigid polyurethane that can squeak and transmit harsh vibrations, this high-quality rubber offers the perfect balance of flexibility and durability, mimicking the factory ride quality with increased longevity.
Durability: Engineered to resist environmental degradation from oil, grease, and road salt, ensuring your suspension stays quiet and aligned through years of use.
Load Rating: Designed to withstand the constant torsional stress of a lowered or modified VW without collapsing or tearing.
🛠️ Installation & Maintenance Notes
Proper bushing installation is the difference between a quiet car and a squeaky one:
❌ Lubrication Warning: Use only silicone-based grease or specialized rubber lubricant during installation. Avoid petroleum-based grease (like standard chassis grease), as it will cause the rubber compound to swell, soften, and eventually disintegrate.
❌ Inspection Requirement: If your rear tires are showing uneven wear or the rear end "wanders" during lane changes, your spring plate grommets are likely compressed or cracked. Replacing these is a critical first step in a rear-end alignment.
❌ Correct Orientation: Ensure the "knobby" side is seated correctly into the corresponding notches in your spring plate cover or housing to prevent premature wear.
- ❌ Matching Sets: It is highly recommended to replace all four grommets (two inner, two outer) at the same time to ensure equal ride height and consistent handling across the rear axle.
