Torsion Bar - Dirt Modified - 29" Long - Solid - .975 Rate - Left Rear
Performance & Fitment
Application: Dirt Modified (Big Block/Small Block)
Position: Left Rear (LR)
Rate: 0.975
Diameter: 0.975"
Length: 29”
Tuning Profile: The 0.975" is an extreme-rate bar for the Left Rear. It is primarily used to prevent the car from "over-hiking" or "bicycling" on tracks with massive traction. By resisting the upward travel of the left rear, it keeps the front end pinned and prevents the chassis from unloading the right-side tires during aggressive cornering.
Material: Manufactured from high-strength, aircraft-grade alloy steel (4340) for maximum torsional resilience.
Centerless Ground: Precision-ground to a 0.975" tolerance to ensure a perfectly linear spring rate. This level of precision is critical when running high rates, as even minor diameter deviations can drastically change the wheel rate.
Heat Treatment: Through-hardened and pre-stressed to maximize "memory." This ensures the bar returns to its original index night after night, resisting the "sagging" common in lower-quality steel.
Finish: Durable powder coating protects the bar from the abrasive environment of dirt racing and corrosive clay chemicals.
Spline Quality: Machined to tight tolerances for a zero-slop fit with high-performance torsion arms and stops.
❌ Critical Tube Clearance: At 0.975", this bar is nearly an inch thick. You must ensure your chassis torsion tubes are perfectly straight and clean. Any internal rust, mud, or a slight bend in the tube will cause the bar to bind. A binding bar creates an "infinite" spring rate that will make the car handle erratically and likely snap the bar or the torsion arm.
❌ Shock Valving: A 0.975" bar has a very high rebound frequency. If your Left Rear shock does not have enough rebound control, the car will "hop" or pogo out of the corners. Consult your shock technician when jumping to this rate.
❌ Arm Integrity: The torque generated by a .975 rate is immense. Inspect your torsion arm splines for "egging" or wear. Using a worn arm with this bar will likely result in stripped splines under load.
❌ Length Check: This is a 29" tip-to-tip bar. Verify your chassis requirements, as some newer-style Modifieds or specialized Northeast chassis may utilize 30" or 31" bars.
- ❌ Position Specifics: While rated for the Left Rear, installing this on the Right Rear by mistake will result in a "dead" feeling car that refuses to roll over and plant the tires, leading to a massive loss of side-bite.
