Front Torsion Bar Set - Cortez Motor Home - 44.62" Long X 1.200" Dia - 1 1/4" Hex
Performance & Fitment
Vehicle Compatibility: Cortez Motor Home (Clark, Kent, and owner-produced models)
Application: Front Suspension
Years: 1963–1979
Chassis Note: The Cortez features a distinct FWD layout (initially Chrysler Slant-6, later Ford 302 or Oldsmobile 455). These torsion bars are designed to handle the heavy engine and transaxle weight concentrated over the front wheels.
Adjustability: Designed to allow for fine-tuning of the front ride height, providing the extra spring rate needed for modernized interiors or additional cargo.
Material: Solid high-strength 4340 aircraft-grade alloy steel for maximum torsional resilience.
Manufacturing: Centerless ground to a precise diameter to ensure a perfectly consistent spring rate between the left and right sides.
Heat Treatment: Through-hardened and pre-stressed using Sway-A-Way’s proprietary process, which significantly increases tensile strength and allows for more travel before yielding.
Finish: High-durability gloss powder coating for superior corrosion resistance against road salts and moisture.
❌ Engine Weight Variance: While "Universal" for Cortez models, a coach with the original Slant-6 may require a different adjustment than the significantly heavier Oldsmobile 455 V8 units. Ensure you index the bars correctly during installation to account for your specific powertrain weight.
❌ Bushing Inspection: These high-performance bars provide a firmer, more controlled ride. If your original control arm bushings or pivot points are dry-rotted or worn, the increased stiffness will accelerate their failure. It is highly recommended to inspect or replace polyurethane bushings during installation.
❌ Anchor/Key Condition: Given the age of these vehicles, the torsion bar "keys" or anchors can often be seized or rusted. Ensure your adjustment hardware is moving freely before attempting to remove the factory bars.
- ❌ Not for Rear Suspension: These are dedicated Front torsion bars. Most Cortez models utilized a different rear suspension setup (often leaf springs or trailing arms) depending on the production year and coachbuilder.
