Category: Porsche 911 Rear Torsion Bars

The solid 28mm rear torsion bar is a high-performance suspension component designed for Porsche 911 owners who prioritize track performance and maximum chassis control. Stepping up to a 28mm diameter provides a massive increase in rear spring rate, effectively neutralizing the rear-end "squat" and body roll associated with the 911’s iconic rear-engine layout. This diameter is typically the standard for "RSR-style" builds, high-horsepower 930 Turbos, and dedicated PCA (Porsche Club of America) racing classes.

Performance & Fitment

  • Application: Rear Torsion Bar Set
  • Diameter: 28mm (Competition / Heavy Performance)
  • Type: Solid
  • Spring Rate: Aggressive upgrade. This bar offers nearly double the stiffness of many early factory 911 rear bars, providing the rigidity needed for high-grip racing tires.
    • Porsche 911: 1965 through 1989

    • Porsche 912: 1965 through 1969

    • Porsche 930 (Turbo): 1975 through 1989

    • Fitment Note: Direct replacement for factory rear bars. These interface with the internal splines of the torsion tube and the external splines of the rear spring plates.

  • Premium Construction

    • Material: Forged from high-strength 4340 alloy steel, through-hardened to withstand the intense torsional stress levels of a 28mm racing-spec bar.

    • Manufacturing: Centerless ground to a precision 28mm finish. This creates a perfectly uniform outer diameter, ensuring the spring rate is consistent throughout the bar's rotation and eliminating surface stress risers.

    • Heat Treatment: Shot-peened and heat-treated for maximum fatigue life, ensuring your suspension height remains consistent even under extreme racing loads.

    • Finish: Heavy-duty powder coating for superior resistance to corrosion and track-side debris.

  • ⚠️ Critical Installation & Performance Notes

  • Chassis Balance: A 28mm rear bar is extremely stiff. To avoid dangerous snap-oversteer, these must be paired with upgraded front torsion bars (typically 23mm or 24mm fronts).

  • Damping Requirements: Standard street shocks (like Bilstein HD) will be completely overwhelmed by this spring rate. You must use custom-valved racing dampers with high rebound control to prevent the car from bouncing uncontrollably over bumps.

  • Mounting & Bushings: At this performance level, factory rubber bushings will deflect excessively. We highly recommend upgrading to spherical bearings or bronze bushings to ensure the torsion bar can move freely without binding.

  • Ride Quality: This setup is very firm. While technically street-legal, it is optimized for smooth race tracks and high-speed canyon carving. You will feel every imperfection in the road surface.
