SKU 1922

Category: Porsche 914 Torsion Bars

The ultimate high-rate front suspension solution for the Porsche 914. These solid 22mm torsion bars represent one of the stiffest options available for the 914 chassis. Engineered specifically for high-horsepower conversions (such as V8 or large displacement flat-six swaps) and dedicated GT-class racing, these bars provide the extreme roll resistance required to manage significant weight increases or high-downforce aerodynamic packages.

Performance & Fitment

  • Application: Front Torsion Bar Set Diameter: 22mm (Extreme Competition / Heavy Conversion Grade) Type: Solid Spring Rate: Maximum performance increase (Approximately 4.5x the rate of factory 4-cylinder bars)
    • Porsche 914-4: 1970 through 1976

    • Porsche 914-6: 1970 through 1972

    • Note: This bar is intended for highly modified vehicles. It provides a massive leap in front-end stiffness compared to the factory 11mm–13mm bars.

  • Premium Construction

    • Material: Solid 4340 aircraft-grade alloy steel, through-hardened to handle the immense torsional stress generated by a 22mm diameter.

    • Manufacturing: Centerless ground to a precise 22mm diameter, ensuring a perfectly linear spring rate and removing surface imperfections that could lead to stress fractures under racing loads.

    • Heat Treatment: Shot-peened and heat-treated to prevent "settling" and maintain a precise corner-balanced ride height.

    • Finish: Industrial-grade powder coating for maximum protection against corrosion and track-side debris.

  • ⚠️ Critical Installation & Performance Notes

  • Chassis Reinforcement Mandatory: A 22mm bar is rigid enough to potentially damage an unreinforced factory chassis. It is essential to reinforce the front torsion bar mounting points and A-arm bulkheads to prevent metal fatigue or structural failure.

  • System Balance: You must utilize very high-rate rear coil springs (typically 300+ lb/in) to balance the vehicle's handling. Using these with standard rear springs will make the car nearly impossible to turn (severe understeer).

  • Damping Requirements: Standard or even "Sport" street shocks are insufficient for this rate. Custom-valved racing dampers are required to control the rapid oscillation and prevent a dangerous "pogo" effect.

  • Spline Care: Apply a generous layer of high-pressure waterproof grease to the splines during installation to prevent seizing and eliminate the "popping" noises common in high-rate torsion setups.
