Category: Porsche 914 Torsion Bars
  • The ultimate "weight-shaving" front suspension upgrade for competition-level Porsche 914s. These 20mm tubular torsion bars represent the upper echelon of stiffness for the 914 platform. Primarily designed for dedicated track cars, 914/6 GT clones, or high-horsepower conversion projects, the tubular design provides massive roll resistance while reducing unsprung weight—allowing the suspension to react faster than a traditional solid bar.
Performance & Fitment
  • Application: Front Torsion Bar Set Diameter: 20mm (Competition Grade) Type: Tubular (Hollow) Spring Rate: Extreme increase over stock (Over 3x the stiffness of original 11mm bars)
    • Porsche 914-4: 1970 through 1976

    • Porsche 914-6: 1970 through 1972

    • Note: Designed to provide the same effective spring rate as a 20mm solid bar but with a significant weight advantage.

  • Premium Construction

    • Material: 4340 aircraft-grade alloy steel, through-hardened to handle the extreme torsional loads of a 20mm diameter on a lightweight chassis.

    • Weight Savings: These tubular bars feature a 0.500" inner bore, making them approximately 2 lbs lighter per set than solid bars. This reduction in unsprung mass improves tire contact and shock efficiency.

    • Manufacturing: Centerless ground for a precision finish and a perfectly linear spring rate.

    • Finish: Industrial-grade powder coating for maximum corrosion resistance.

  • ⚠️ Critical Installation & Setup Notes

  • Mandatory Rear Upgrades: Running 20mm front bars with stock rear springs will result in extreme understeer. To maintain the 914's signature mid-engine agility, you must pair these with high-rate rear competition coil springs.

  • Shock Damping: Standard street shocks cannot control this spring rate. Competition-valved dampers (such as Bilstein RSR or custom-valved Koni Racing) are required to prevent the front end from becoming dangerously "bouncy."

  • Chassis Stress: A 20mm bar is incredibly rigid. Inspect your torsion bar mounting points and A-arm brackets for any signs of fatigue or rust. Reinforcing these areas is highly recommended for racing applications.

  • Indexing: Because these bars are so stiff, ride height adjustment is hyper-sensitive. A single spline of "clocking" adjustment will move the car’s height significantly.
