Torsion Bar Set – Porsche 914 – 20mm Diameter – Solid (Pair)
Performance & Fitment
- Application: Front Torsion Bar Set Diameter: 20mm (Competition Grade) Spring Rate: Extreme increase over stock (Over 3x the stiffness of original 11mm bars)
Porsche 914-4: 1970 through 1976
Porsche 914-6: 1970 through 1972
Note: Available in both solid and tubular designs to fit your weight-reduction goals.
Material: 4340 aircraft-grade alloy steel, through-hardened to handle the extreme torsional loads of a 20mm diameter on a light chassis.
Manufacturing: Centerless ground for a precision finish and a perfectly linear spring rate.
Finish: Industrial-grade powder coating for maximum corrosion resistance.
Tubular Design: Features a 0.500" inner bore. This version is 2 lbs lighter per set than the solid bar, significantly reducing unsprung weight—a critical factor for mid-engine racing performance.
Chassis Stress: A 20mm bar is incredibly stiff. You must inspect your torsion bar mounting points for any signs of fatigue or rust. For racing applications, reinforcing the chassis at the A-arm mounts is highly recommended.
Mandatory Rear Upgrades: Running 20mm front bars with anything near stock rear springs will result in a car that refuses to turn (extreme understeer). You must pair these with high-rate rear competition coil springs to maintain the 914's signature mid-engine agility.
Shock Damping: Standard street shocks cannot control this spring rate. Competition-valved dampers (such as Bilstein RSR or custom-valved Koni Racing) are required to prevent the front end from becoming dangerously "bouncy."
- Indexing: Because these bars are so rigid, indexing is hyper-sensitive. A single spline of adjustment will move the car’s ride height significantly.
