TORSION BAR SET, PORSCHE 911, 23 mm RATE
SKU 1823T
Category: Porsche Torsion Bars
A high-performance front suspension component for the Porsche 911. These 23mm tubular torsion bars are engineered for competitive drivers who demand maximum roll stiffness with minimum weight. The "T" designation indicates a tubular (hollow) construction, offering a superior strength-to-weight ratio over solid bars. This diameter is a staple for dedicated track cars, autocross builds, and high-performance "RSR" style projects where precision front-end geometry is critical.
Performance & Fitment
Application: Front Torsion Bar Set
Diameter: 23mm (Competition Grade)
Type: Tubular (Hollow)
Spring Rate: Significantly increased over stock (Approx. 115% stiffer than 19mm)
Porsche 911: 1965 through 1989
Porsche 912: 1965 through 1969
Porsche 930 (Turbo): 1975 through 1989
Note: The hollow design reduces unsprung weight at the front end, allowing the suspension to track more effectively over bumps compared to a solid bar of the same rate.
Premium Construction
Material: Solid 4340 aircraft-grade alloy steel, chosen for its extreme tensile strength and ability to maintain structural integrity in a tubular format.
Manufacturing: Centerless ground for a precision 23mm outside diameter, ensuring a perfectly consistent spring rate throughout the bar's travel.
Heat Treatment: Through-hardened and shot-peened to provide excellent "torsional memory" and prevent the vehicle from sagging under heavy racing loads.
Finish: Industrial-grade powder coating for superior protection against moisture and track-side debris.
⚠️ Performance & Installation Notes
Balanced Setup: At a 23mm front rate, you must upgrade your rear torsion bars (typically to 30mm or 31mm) to maintain the 911’s handling balance. Using these with stock rear bars will result in severe understeer.
Damping Requirements: This spring rate requires aggressive damping. We recommend competition-valved struts (such as Bilstein RSR-spec or custom-valved dampers) to prevent the front end from feeling "bouncy."
Spline Maintenance: Clean and inspect the female splines in your A-arms and adjustment caps. Apply a high-quality waterproof grease to the splines during installation to ensure quiet operation and prevent seizing.
Indexing: Because these bars are so stiff, indexing is extremely sensitive. A single spline adjustment will move the ride height significantly; document your starting position carefully.
