Torsion Bar Set - '87-'97 Nissan Pathfinder 4WD
SKU 1458
Category: Nissan Pathfinder Torsion Bars
The "Extra Heavy-Duty" solution for the first-generation Nissan Pathfinder (WD21). These solid 27.5mm torsion bars are the largest diameter Sway-A-Way offers for this chassis. By increasing the spring rate by 20–30%, they provide the massive front-end support required for vehicles equipped with heavy steel plate bumpers, high-capacity winches, or snow plows—gear that typically causes the factory suspension to sag and bottom out.
Performance & Fitment
Application: Front Torsion Bar Set (Long-Bar Configuration)
Diameter: 27.5mm (Maximum Load / Heavy-Duty)
Length: 48.44"
Spring Rate: +20% to +30% over OEM
Nissan Pathfinder (WD21) 4WD: 1987 through 1995
Nissan Pathfinder (R50) 4WD: 1996 through 1997 (Verify suspension type — many R50 models transitioned to struts)
Note: Specifically for 4WD models utilizing the 48.44" length bars (typically V6 and long-wheelbase configurations).
Premium Construction
Material: Solid 4340 aircraft-grade alloy steel, engineered for peak torsional fatigue resistance.
Manufacturing: Centerless ground to a precise 27.5mm to ensure a perfectly linear spring rate and eliminate surface "notches" that could lead to fractures under heavy off-road cycling.
Heat Treatment: Specialized through-hardening allows these bars to maintain their indexed height even when subjected to the constant weight of heavy front-end armor.
Finish: Industrial powder coating for superior protection against the high-moisture and high-abrasion environments of the front wheel wells.
⚠️ Critical Fitment & Safety Notes
Verify Your Length: Nissan used multiple bar lengths. SKU 1458 is 48.44" long. If your current bars are closer to 35" or 47", this SKU will not fit your torsion housing.
Ride Quality Warning: A 27.5mm bar is significantly stiffer than stock. If your Pathfinder is lightweight (stock bumper, no winch), these bars will provide a very rigid ride. They are best suited for vehicles with at least 150+ lbs of additional front-end weight.
Shock Requirement: You must upgrade to a high-performance gas-charged monotube shock (like the Bilstein 4600 or 5100). Factory-style twin-tube shocks lack the valving necessary to control the high rebound energy of a 27.5mm bar.
Installation: Use high-pressure waterproof grease on the splines to prevent "popping" noises and ensure the bars can be removed in the future.
