Torsion Bar Set – Porsche 924/944 & 1969+ VW Bug (26 9/16" 30mm Tubular)
SKU 1230T
Category: Porsche & Volkswagen Torsion Bars
The ultimate lightweight competition upgrade for the "long bar" configuration. These tubular 30mm rear torsion bars provide the massive spring rate of a solid 30mm bar while shedding approximately 5 lbs of unsprung weight per set. By reducing the mass that your dampers must manage, these bars allow for significantly faster suspension recovery and superior tire contact during high-speed cornering or aggressive track maneuvers.
Performance & Fitment
Application: Rear Torsion Bar Set (Tubular/Hollow)
Length: 26 9/16" (Long-Bar Configuration)
Diameter: 30mm (Ultimate Competition / Weight Reduction)
Volkswagen Beetle / Super Beetle (IRS): 1969 through 1977
Volkswagen Karmann Ghia (IRS): 1969 through 1974
Volkswagen Type 3 (IRS): 1968 through 1973
Porsche 924 / 944: All models including Turbo/S2 (Verify spline count)
Premium Construction
Material: Tubular aircraft-grade alloy steel for an optimized strength-to-weight ratio.
Manufacturing: Centerless ground to ensure perfectly uniform wall thickness and a precise, linear spring rate across the entire bar.
Heat Treatment: Through-hardened and shot-peened to maximize fatigue life and prevent "settling" even under aggressive racing loads.
Finish: Industrial-grade powder coating for long-term protection against track debris and corrosion.
⚠️ Critical Fitment & Safety Warnings
Because a 30mm bar is over 250% stiffer than a factory 22mm bar, please verify these requirements:
❌ Pre-1969 Swing Axle VWs: These 26 9/16" bars are strictly for Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) vehicles. They are physically incompatible with earlier "Swing Axle" torsion housings.
❌ Chassis Stress: This level of rigidity exerts immense force on the chassis. We highly recommend reinforced torsion housings and heavy-duty spring plates to prevent metal fatigue or cracking.
❌ Mandatory Damper Upgrade: Standard street shocks cannot control the massive rebound energy of a 30mm bar. You must pair these with race-valved or adjustable shocks (e.g., Koni Sport or Bilstein B8) to avoid dangerous "pogo" handling.
❌ Street Use: This setup will be punishingly stiff on public roads and is generally reserved for dedicated track or off-road competition use.
