SKU 31300
Category: Custom VW Off-Road Torsion Bars
Engineered for elite-level competition, the SKU 31300 series is the ultimate suspension solution for custom VW race builds, sand rails, and trophy limited classes. Unlike standard off-the-shelf bars, these are built to the specific dimensions of your custom chassis. By utilizing aerospace-grade materials and racing-specific splines, these bars provide the precise spring rate and travel required to survive the most punishing desert terrain.
Performance & Fitment
Application: Unlimited Off-Road Race Cars, Custom VW Drag Rails, and Mid-Engine Sand Cars.
Length: Custom Ordered. These bars are manufactured to your specific housing width requirements, ensuring a perfect fit for widened or narrowed chassis.
Diameter: Custom Rated. Available in various diameters to achieve the exact spring rate your vehicle's weight and leverage ratio demand.
Spline Configuration: Features the industry-standard 40-tooth and 44-tooth precision-cut splines. This configuration allows for fine-tuning of ride height by indexing the inner and outer splines (often referred to as "degreeing the bars").
Premium Construction
Material: 300M Alloy Steel. Widely considered the "gold standard" for racing torsion bars, 300M offers a much higher tensile strength and superior ductility compared to standard chromoly. This allows the bar to twist further and return to its original shape without snapping or permanently deforming.
Pre-Stressed (Set): Each bar undergoes a factory pre-stressing process. By twisting the bar beyond its operating range during manufacturing, we eliminate "initial sag." Your car will maintain its ride height from the first lap to the last.
Centerless Ground: The body of the bar is ground to a mirror finish to remove all surface imperfections. In high-performance applications, even a tiny scratch can become a stress riser that leads to a catastrophic break; our precision grinding mitigates this risk.
Heat Treatment: Optimized through-hardening provides maximum "spring energy" storage, ensuring the suspension remains responsive and lively.
🛠️ Custom Racing Setup Tips
When ordering and installing custom 300M bars, precision is mandatory for performance:
❌ Directional Requirement: Because these bars are Pre-Stressed, they are Directional. They are typically marked with an "L" or "R." Swapping them will cause the bar to untwist against its grain, leading to immediate sagging and potential failure.
❌ Calculating Rate: When moving to 300M, ensure you have calculated your effective spring rate based on your arm length. A bar that is too stiff will result in a "skating" sensation, while one too soft will cause the chassis to frame-out on high-speed G-outs.
❌ Spline Maintenance: Always use a high-quality anti-seize or moly-grease on the 40/44 splines. In the harsh environment of off-road racing, moisture and silt can seize these components, making it impossible to adjust ride height or service the torsion housing.
- ❌ Housing Clearance: Ensure your custom torsion housing is free of slag or debris. A 300M bar needs room to "grow" slightly in diameter as it twists; any internal contact with the housing will cause binding and heat build-up.
